Statue stele e novità in Lunigiana

Oggi andiamo nella più profonda Garfagnana, ma solo per valicarne il confine e accedere alla Lunigiana. 

Questa regione suddivisa tra Toscana e Liguria, prende il nome da Lunensis ager, che significa territorio dell'antica città di Luni. 

In quest'area a partire dall'800 sono state rinvenute una serie di statue stele, antiche sculture in pietra di cui si presuppone un uso funerario durante l'eta del rame. 

Nel 2018 sono stati intrapresi nuovi scavi che hanno riportato alla luce il luogo di origine delle 9 statue stele rinvenute da un contadino nel 1905 e soprattutto un interessante insediamento del Paleolitico Superiore (12.000 anni fa!!!). Le 9 statue stele invece si trovano, insieme ad altri esemplari, nel Museo delle statue stele a Pontremoli, all'interno di un suggestivo contenitore, il castello di Piagnaro (MS). 

Se passate da quest'area non esiterei a fare una visita di questo museo per comprendere questi antichi manufatti e la cultura che li aveva prodotti.

Today we are going in the deepest Garfagnana, but just to cross the border and enter in Lunigiana.
This region, divided between Tuscany and Liguria, takes its name from Lunensis ager, latin name meaning land of the ancient Luni city.
In this area, since XIX century several stone sculptures have been found; they are sculptures that might have been funeral symbol during Copper Age.
In 2018 new digs have been started that brought to light the original place of the 9 sculptures found by a farmer in 1905, but most of all an interesting settlement of Upper Paleolithic period (12.000 years ago!!!). 
In last days important results let us hope in the creation of an archaeological park and in the valorization of this area, thanks to its historical interest.

The 9 stone sculptures on the other hand are settled, with others, in Museo delle statue stele in Pontremoli, inside an evocativ building: Piagnaro castle (MS).
If you are passing by this area, I wouldn't hesitate to visit this museum to understand these ancient manufacts and the culture that had produced them.
